Common mistakes

Small fixes that make the conversation clearer

  • Agreeing to the plan without reading it

The Kooperationsplan lists your tasks. Ask what is in it, take a copy, and ask about anything unclear.

  • Simply not showing up

Missing an appointment without a good reason can reduce the benefit. Always tell the Jobcenter in advance and send proof.

  • Letting a companion answer for you

A Beistand can help, but the case worker talks to you and you make the decisions.

Common questions

FAQ

Short answers for the questions people ask before this appointment.

Is it still called Bürgergeld?+

No. Since 1 July 2026 the benefit is called Grundsicherungsgeld. People who already received Bürgergeld did not need to apply again.

What happens if I miss a Jobcenter appointment?+

Missing appointments without a good reason can reduce the benefit, and repeated missed appointments can have serious consequences. If you cannot come, tell the Jobcenter in advance and give the reason, with proof such as a sick note.

Can someone come with me?+

Yes. You may bring a support person (Beistand) to meetings (§ 13 (4) SGB X). They can help, but you remain the one who answers and decides.

What is the Kooperationsplan?+

A plan you and your case worker set up with your next steps, such as applications, courses, and appointments. Read it before you agree and keep a copy.
